Background

Before coming to the Bar, Jackson was Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth (Dr Stephen Donaghue QC). In that role, he appeared as junior counsel for the Commonwealth Attorney-General in the High Court in Mineralogy v Western Australia; Palmer v Western Australia. He was previously Counsel (Senior Lawyer) in the Office of General Counsel at the Australian Government Solicitor. He was also Associate to Justice Keane of the High Court of Australia and Justice Farrell of the Federal Court of Australia.

Jackson holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) from the University of Oxford, where he studied on the Peter Cameron Sydney-Oxford Scholarship. He graduated from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours in Law.

Jackson has taught constitutional law at the Australian National University. He is also a reporter for the New South Wales Law Reports.
